RECIPE KEY

On each recipe, you’ll find a bit called ‘recipe key’ on the top. As the name suggests, this short section contains some key information about the recipe regarding the diet, ingredients, dish type, cuisine and so on. I’m not listing all previously mentioned categories for each recipe, instead the info changes depending on the recipe and what I think the key words for that particular recipe are. These words also work as tags, so they should help you navigating on my website and finding new foods to try 🙂

When it comes to allergens, I’ll always say whether the recipe is dairy or gluten-free, but also normally list the most common allergens in that particular recipe. These are:

  • Milk (or dairy in general)
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Crustacean shellfish (such as shrimp, crab, prawn)
  • Tree nuts (such as almonds, pecans and walnuts)
  • Peanuts
  • Wheat
  • Soybean

However, please note that even though the recipe contains a certain allergen or is not listed as gluten or dairy-free, this doesn’t mean it could not be adapted suitable for your dietary requirements! For recipe variations, scroll down the recipe page to find a yellow box saying ‘notes’ (similar to the one on this page). If applicable to that recipe, on the bottom of that section you’ll find a bit called ‘allergen & diet info’. I’ve written in that section which ingredient to replace or leave out to alter the recipe.

Unfortunately I have no experience cooking with dairy alternatives nor have I ever tried to substitute eggs in a recipe. Therefore, I cannot give any advice on that sector. But hopefully the allergen & diet info bit is useful on some recipes at least! Please note that I’m not stating the obvious in that section, such as replacing regular pasta with gluten-free one. The extra information is there only if I know the recipe will definitely work altered as it’s not always as straightforward as simply leaving the meat out to make something vegetarian for example.

Notes:

  • Dried pasta doesn’t normally contain egg, unlike fresh pasta
  • Please note that even though eggs are often grouped with dairy, they are not a dairy product!
